Captains and Coaches Book Launch

Coaches, school principals, teachers, learners and sport supporters gathered at Laerskool Rustenburg on Friday, 24 May for the launch of the well-known financial adviser and planner, Anton Swanepoel and the former Springbok rugby coach, Nick Mallett’s book, CAPTAINS AND COACHES.

De Wet De Villiers Brokers hosted the event with the two South African icons at Laerskool Rustenburg. The evening was described as a dynamic, well-organised event during which the guests could relax and enjoy the camp fires, good food and excellent company.

“There is a huge lack in leadership in some of our schools and young people do not understand the principles thereof”, said Swanepoel. “I approached Mallett to collect stories of leadership on the rugby field, which will also be applicable to all other sports”, Swanepoel further commented. He emphasised that a leader's first task is to define reality and his or her contribution towards the team. Leadership is all about trust, competence, communication, character, consistency and courage.

“Captains of teams and leaders are challenged to demonstrate these principles on and of the field”, said Mallett. Mallett indicated that he became involved with this book due to the fact that there is a need for such literature for coaches and players. There is always opportunity to learn more – and Mallett said that if he had access to such a book when he was younger, he would have understood leadership principles much better. Mallett shared his experiences with Springbok captains, such as John Smit, Victor Matfield, Fourie Du Preez and Jan de Villiers in this book.

Thomas De Wet from De Wet De Villiers Brokers would like to thank all the parties involved in this great event for their support and attendance, especially Rustenburg Primary School and Coricraft for helping to host the evening. What a great show of commitment and leadership that was portrayed during this event!
