HOLLARD HIGHWAY HEROES 2021

The “Hollard Highway Heroes 2021” is a competition run by Hollard Trucking, a division of Hollard Insure, to identify and richly reward the best truck drivers in the country. The competition is held annually and offers substantial cash rewards and other prizes to encourage truck drivers to drive responsibly.

Courtesy Hollard, we share with you the following news about the Hollard Highway Heroes 2021:

Over six months of intense competition, many indomitable truck drivers from different parts of the country have proven that they have what it takes to create #BetterFutures on South Africa’s roads through safe and considerate driving.

But ultimately only one contestant could drive away with the R50 000 Hollard Highway Heroes competition grand prize for this year.

That superhero is Sebokeng father-of-three Thato Motaung, the overall winner for 2021, who recently scooped the honour at a high-profile event held at his employer’s headquarters. His skilful driving also earned him the overall prize in the Tankers category of the annual contest for truck drivers.

Raised in the village of Poelong in the Free State as one of seven children, Thato is a family man who says his favourite pastime is watching television with his kids, aged 17, 10 and six. We congratulate him on this incredible achievement and hope it will spur him on to even greater heights in future! Kudos, too, to fleet owner Elite Dynamics/Autobulk in Sasolburg, and broker Traxcom.

Thato is joined by four deserving category winners, honoured and awarded for their outstanding driving at mini-roadshow ceremonies held at their respective employers’ premises.

Alfred Lents and Pieter Fredericks – both first-rate drivers for Henro Bulk Carriers – ended top of their class in the Tippers and Tautliners categories respectively.

The superb Thusi Mkhombiseni, a driver for Agritrans, beat the competition to emerge the overall winner of the Flatdecks category, while Ronald Ntombela, a driver for Fairfield Longhaul showed he had the superior skill to be named champion in the Reefers category.

We salute all the overall category winners, who each bagged a welcome R5 000.

Hollard emphasises that cautious driving, promoted by Hollard Highway Heroes 2021, leads to a reduced risk of accidents involving trucks, and fewer insurance claims, creating the win-win-win for all.
